Woodpecker vs Instantly: which cold email tool should you use?
Pick Woodpecker if you contact fewer than about 4,000 new prospects a month (the break-even on monthly billing) and want to pay only for what you send. Pick Instantly if your volume is higher or steady, or you want one flat price with team features built in. Prices below are as of October 2026, from each vendor's pricing page.
How we research this: facts come from each vendor’s public pages and named studies, dated where shown; the math is ours and labeled. Vendor prices and limits are as of October 3, 2026.

How do the two price models differ?
Woodpecker bills by contacted prospects. Instantly bills a flat fee and caps how many contacts you can upload.
| Woodpecker | Instantly | |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | Unique prospects contacted in a month | A plan: Growth, Hypergrowth or Light Speed |
| Entry price | $35 a month for 500 prospects ($7.00 per 100) | Growth $47 a month ($37.60 billed yearly) |
| Counting rule | A prospect added to 5 campaigns counts as 5 | Uploaded contacts are a lifetime cap that doesn't reset each month |
| Emails | 16 emails per prospect in the tier (8,000 at 500 prospects) | Growth 5,000 a month; Hypergrowth 100,000 |
| Inboxes | Unlimited email accounts | Unlimited email accounts |
| Warmup | 2 warm-ups included at 500 prospects; more at $5 per email account a month | Unlimited warmup on every plan |
| Team | Unlimited team members | Team invites start on Hypergrowth |
| A/B testing | Up to 5 versions | Included from Growth |
| Free trial | 14 days or 100 cold emails, whichever comes first, no card | Free trial with 250 uploaded contacts (Instantly help center) |
Instantly shows Hypergrowth's email allowance two ways: its plan card says 125,000 a month, while its comparison table and FAQ say 100,000 (its help center lists 125,000). We use the lower 100,000, as everywhere on our site.
Woodpecker's tiers jump: 500, 2,000, 4,000, 8,000 prospects and up. There's no 1,000 tier. That matters for the math below.
Where's the break-even?
Around 4,000 prospects a month on monthly billing. Below that, Woodpecker is cheaper. Above it, Instantly's flat fee wins.
Our math: each prospect gets 5 touches (days 0, 3, 7, 10 and 14, our house cadence), so emails a month are prospects × 5. Woodpecker prices are the monthly totals from its calculator; the yearly figure is the "billed annually" total it shows ($280, $536, $792 and $1,272 a year), divided by 12. Instantly's cheapest plan that fits is shown.
| New prospects a month | Emails (5 touches) | Woodpecker, monthly / yearly (per month) | Instantly plan | Instantly, monthly / yearly (per month) | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | 2,500 | $35 / $23.33 | Growth | $47 / $37.60 | Woodpecker by $12 / $14.27 |
| 2,000 | 10,000 | $67 / $44.67 | Hypergrowth | $97 / $77.60 | Woodpecker by $30 / $32.93 |
| 4,000 | 20,000 | $99 / $66.00 | Hypergrowth | $97 / $77.60 | Instantly by $2 monthly; Woodpecker by $11.60 yearly |
| 8,000 | 40,000 | $159 / $106.00 | Hypergrowth | $97 / $77.60 | Instantly by $62 / $28.40 |
Two catches:
- Instantly's contact cap. Growth allows 1,000 uploaded contacts in total (5,000 emails a month). At 500 new prospects a month, that total fills in the second month, so a steady sender needs Hypergrowth ($97). Hypergrowth's 25,000 total lasts about three months at 8,000 new prospects a month (our math). Deleting leads from campaigns frees space, per Instantly's help center.
- Woodpecker's warm-ups. The plan includes 2 warm-ups at 500 prospects and 6 at 2,000. Each extra costs $5 per email account a month (monthly billing).
What does it cost for a real team?
Our house setup: 4 inboxes per rep, about 30 sends per inbox a day (our guideline), 21 sending days, 5 touches. Mailboxes and domains cost the same on both tools, so they're left out; see the cheapest cold email stack.
| Setup | New prospects a month | Woodpecker, monthly billing | Instantly, monthly billing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 rep, 4 inboxes | 504 (4 × 30 × 21 ÷ 5) | $67, because 504 is four over the 500 tier; trim to 500 and it's $35 + 2 extra warm-ups × $5 = $45 | Hypergrowth $97, since Growth's 1,000-contact total runs out in month two |
| 3 reps, 12 inboxes | 1,512 | $67 + 6 extra warm-ups × $5 = $97 | Hypergrowth $97 |
For one rep, Woodpecker is the cheaper tool. For three reps on monthly billing, it's a dead heat at $97, and Instantly's flat fee has more room to grow. The warm-up add-on is the reason Woodpecker's advantage disappears: Instantly includes unlimited warmup. See the best cold email software for a small team for the full 3-rep stack.
Woodpecker also sells Google or Microsoft email addresses at $6 a month each and new domains at about $1 a month billed annually, per its pricing page.
Which is better for a solo founder?
Woodpecker, if you send in bursts. You pay for the prospects you contact, not for a tier you don't use, and a 14-day trial (or 100 cold emails) is free with no card. Unlimited team members and email accounts are included even at the 500 tier.
Instantly Growth fits a founder testing under 1,000 prospects in total. It's $47 a month, with unlimited warmup. After that, you hit the contact cap.
Which is better for a team of 3 or more?
Instantly Hypergrowth. It's $97 a month ($77.60 billed yearly) with team invites, 100,000 emails a month and 25,000 uploaded contacts, and no per-rep fee. Woodpecker can match the price on monthly billing, but you do the warm-up math every time you add an inbox.

When should you skip each tool?
- Woodpecker: skip it if you send at steady, high volume. At 8,000 prospects a month it's $159 against Instantly's $97. Also skip it if you add the same prospect to several campaigns, because each one counts again.
- Instantly: skip Growth if you'll upload more than 1,000 contacts in total. Skip it entirely if you send fewer than about 500 prospects a month and want the lowest bill: Woodpecker's 500 tier is $12 cheaper on monthly billing.
